Daybreak

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 24, 2026

Daybreak is built by Amelior Labs. We built this app for people on a recovery journey, and we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you control it. Plain language, no lawyer-speak.

Sensitive data notice: Daybreak is a sobriety and habit-change app. We handle addiction-related data with extra care. Your recovery and addiction data is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used to shame or judge you. The only data point shared for advertising purposes is a device identifier used solely to measure whether an ad led to an app install — never your health or recovery information. See Section 7 for details.

1. Who We Are

Daybreak is a product of Amelior Labs, based in Canada. You can reach us at support@ameliorlabs.ca.

2. Information We Collect

Account data: Email address and display name when you sign up. These are used to identify your account and personalise your experience.

Recovery data: The addiction types you're tracking, your start dates, daily check-ins, and streak history. This is the core data that powers your sobriety tracker.

Addiction and health data: Daybreak handles the following sensitive information:

  • Addiction type — what you're working on (alcohol, vaping, gambling, etc.). Used only to personalise your recovery timeline and insights.
  • Check-in history — your daily recovery check-ins. Used to calculate your streak and show progress over time.
  • Motivation notes — your "why" for quitting. Stored so we can surface it when you need reminding.
  • Urge logs — if you use the urge surfing timer, we may log that a session occurred (not what you rated). Used to identify patterns.

This data is stored securely, never sold, and never used for advertising.

Accountability partner email: If you choose to add one, their email is stored only to send milestone notifications on your behalf. It is never used for marketing.

Usage data: Anonymised analytics (screens visited, features used) to understand how the app is being used. Cannot be linked to you personally.

Device data: Device type, OS version, and app version for bug fixing and performance.

Advertising identifiers: Your device's advertising identifier may be used to measure the effectiveness of ads promoting Daybreak (i.e., to understand whether someone who saw an ad went on to download the app). This data is shared with Meta Platforms for this purpose only and is not linked to your recovery data. You can opt out at any time via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

3. Addiction & Recovery Data — Extra Protections

Because Daybreak handles addiction-related information, which is a sensitive personal health category, we apply stricter protections:

  • Purpose limitation: Your addiction data is used only to power your Daybreak experience. It is never sold, shared with insurers, employers, or advertisers.
  • Encryption: All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard TLS.
  • Minimisation: We only collect what's needed to calculate your streak and show you relevant recovery information.
  • No shaming: Slip data (if you reset your streak) is treated the same as any other check-in. It is never surfaced in a way that judges you.
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the app.

4. How We Use Your Information

To run the app: Calculate your streak, show your body recovery timeline, send milestone emails to your accountability partner.

To personalise your experience: Surface the right recovery content for your addiction type. Show your motivation when you're struggling.

To improve the app: Anonymised analytics help us understand which features help most.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Supabase servers (US/Canada region). We use Row Level Security to ensure your data can only be accessed by you. Passwords are hashed — we never see them. We never sell your personal data to any third party.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the Daybreak service and fulfil the purposes described in this policy.

  • Active accounts: Your account data, recovery data, and check-in history are retained for as long as your account remains active.
  • After account deletion: When you delete your account (Settings → Delete Account), your personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days. This includes your email address, recovery data, check-in history, motivation notes, and accountability partner information.
  • Encrypted backups: Deleted data may persist in encrypted database backups for up to 90 days, after which it is permanently purged. These backups are inaccessible to our team during this period except in the event of a system recovery.
  • Anonymised analytics: Aggregated, anonymised usage data (which cannot be linked back to you) may be retained indefinitely to help us improve the app.
  • Legal obligations: In limited cases, we may retain certain data longer if required by applicable law (for example, billing records for tax purposes). Such data is kept only for the legally required period.

If you have not deleted your account but wish to request deletion of specific data, email support@ameliorlabs.ca and we will respond within 14 days.

7. Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate Daybreak:

  • Supabase — database and authentication
  • RevenueCat — subscription management
  • Resend — transactional email (milestone notifications to your partner)
  • Expo — app infrastructure and push notifications
  • Firebase (Google) — anonymised app analytics and crash reporting to help us improve the app
  • Meta Platforms (Facebook) — ad effectiveness measurement only. If you saw an ad for Daybreak and downloaded the app, Meta receives a signal to measure that conversion. Your recovery data is never shared with Meta.

Each provider has their own privacy policy. We share only the minimum data necessary for each service to function.

8. Your Rights

You can access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. To delete your account, go to Settings → Delete Account in the app. For other requests, email support@ameliorlabs.ca and we'll respond within 14 days.

If you're in Canada, you have rights under PIPEDA. If you're in the EU/EEA, you have rights under GDPR including data portability and the right to object to processing.

9. Children's Privacy

Daybreak is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us immediately.

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).

Under California law, sharing a device advertising identifier with a third party for cross-context behavioural advertising may constitute a "sale or share" of personal information. We share your device advertising identifier with Meta Platforms for ad conversion measurement only. You have the right to opt out of this.

To opt out: Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking and disable tracking for Daybreak. You may also email support@ameliorlabs.ca with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" and we will action your request within 15 days.

We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. We do not discriminate against users who exercise their California privacy rights.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll notify you of significant changes via in-app notice. Continued use after changes means acceptance of the updated policy.
